As a part of HEC's national-wide effort, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) has been established by the executive authority of the Rector, PIEAS. This cell interacts with the HEC on Academic Quality Assurance matters.
The aim of QEC is to institutionalize academic quality assurance culture by development of Quality Assurance program of activities. The QEC is committed to attaining excellence by continuous quality improvement, by capacity building & strengthening measures, through regularly scheduled assessments, and monitoring the follow-ups.
QEC is responsible for the following:

To foster curriculum development of subject area, faculty, together with research and other scholarly activities |

Vision
The vision of quality enhancement cell is to develop Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences as institute of academic excellence of international standard by employing the best quality assurance measures.
Mission
The mission of quality enhancement cell is to assure and enhance the quality of education and research by integrating quality assurance standards, procedures and practices in higher learning at PIEAS.

Terms of Reference (TOR)
The Program Team has the following terms of reference:

To attend Self-Assessment Report (SAR) meetings as and when required. |
|
To ensure Self-Assessment Mechanism is being implemented as per given guidelines prescribed by the HEC. |
|
To collect and document the information required to fulfill the prescribed standards under each criterion. |
|
To provide justification for each standard if it is not applicable. |
|
To prepare drafts of SAR on the given dead line and send them to QEC for timely feedback. |
|
To keep the record of the supporting documents addressing various standards of the SAR. |
|
To circulate and collect the applicable feedback forms to the target stakeholders and include the analysis of the same in the SAR. |
|
To communicate with the management on the effectiveness and suitability of the SA mechanism. |
|
To coordinate with other departments and faculty members, as and when required, for the completion of SAR. |

Activities/Achievements
|
The First Phase of implementation of Academic Quality Assurance has been completed. During this phase, Self-Assessment cycle has been completed for Twelve different Academic Programs covering Six different Departments of PIEAS. The cycle covers: formation of Program Teams, Self-Assessment Report, formation and visit of Academic Assessment Teams, AT Reports, Departmental Implementation Plans, Executive Summaries, Follow-up of Implementation Plans and the Corrective/Preventive Action Reports. |

Director QEC has participated in all QEC meetings organized by HEC and presented progress made by PIEAS in implementation of various Academic Quality Assurance measures. |
|
On-Line system for collection of feedbacks needed for the Self-Assessment procedures has been developed and implemented (thanks to Mr. M. Irfan Hameed). This includes Teacher Evaluation and Course Evaluation feedbacks. Semester-wise login-keys are distributed and all Department heads are requested to ensure that all students give their feedbacks on timely basis. |

Future Plans
